This 1st round of the WFA 65+ National Cup was a tough game against a well organised Oakham side.
Oakham took the lead after 5 minutes with an excellent low shot to the corner of the goal. Stamford held out at 1-0 until half time and also found their opponents to have a solid defence.
Five minutes in to the second half Oakham increased their lead with another excellent low shot to the corner of the goals. Although Stamford worked hard we created very few chances whilst Oakham continued to find openings so it was no surprise when they went further ahead.
Ron Seddon, on his debut for Stamford, hit a post late on but that was about as close as we got. A solid performance by Trevor Oliver at the back though playing out of position. That was the score at the final whistle, a 3-0 win for Oakham which was deserved in a game that was well refereed.
