A bad WFA cup weekend for us as the 60+ lads went down 0-2 to a strong Long Bennington team fielding two England WF Internationals.
Starting in a 2-2-1 formation the Strollers struggled to get a rhythm moving forward in a very tight game as both teams battled to get the lead.
The break through came for Long Bennington when a shot was deflected, wrong footing keeper Angel Goumal.
At the interval we decided to leave things as they were as we were on a level playing field with Long Bennington possession wise. However, an early blow in the second half, following an error clearing the ball at the back, made life extremely difficult so we switched to a 1-3-1 formation.
With Long Bennington only playing one forward too this gave us more possession but we still struggled to create chnaces. Another chnage around swapping the positions of Will Barrett and Tim Marsden, so Will went holding midfield and Tim up front, brought far more fluidity to the Strollers play and we dominated the latter part of the game. Sadly we were unable to beat England keeper John Sykes and with Steve Longden changing the Long Bennington tactics to holding the 2-0, restricting the quality of the chances created, we crashed out of the cup.
A good effort by our 60+ lads though.
Squad:
Will Barrett, Angel Goumal, Tony Laughton, John Hutchins, Colin Kirby, Brian Dunkerley, Tim Marsden
