Sutton-On-Sea Tournament 09th May

Stamford were drawn in a league with Louth A, Wisbech, Sutton A and Grimsby Corinthians The games were played in the order listed above.

Our first game ended in a 0-0 draw in a tight game of few chances. Wisbech then provided a much tougher test but with the same result. We did however suffer two injuries to players. Robin was unable to play any further games, whilst Jez was severly limited. Our next game saw us win 2-0 with Gary Wildsmith scoring both goals. Our last game was another close encounter and another 0-0 draw.

The results meant we finished 3rd in our group on goal difference.

The top 2 teams then contested the 'Cup' competition whilst the next two teams contested the 'Plate' competition.

All 4 teams in our league were successful in their respective semi finals. Stamford beating Sutton B to set up a Plate Final appearance against Grimbsy C. The game ended in another 0-0 stalemate. Despite Paul Newiss' best attempts our inability to score penalites cost us the win.

Wisbech beat Louth A in the final of the 'Cup' competition. Player of the day was undoubtedly Paul Newiss who pulled off a string of outstanding saves.

Both Wisbech and Stamford avoided conceding a goal all day so the loss in the final was tough to take. It was, however, an enjoyable day out at the seaside.

Many thanks all for their hard work and effort.
