Strollers reach final of Birmingham Over 63s Cup!

Strollers came up against Cup favourites Solihull Moors Walkers in the semi final. Goalkeeper Bill Whittle had to withdraw at the last minute through injury and with regulars Chris Keirl and David Kelby also missing Strollers knew they had a big job on their hands.

Strollers started slowly and it soon became clear we were playing one of the best sides we have come across. However Strollers soon settled into their stride and after an excellent quick flowing move Will Barrett set up John Hutchins to score with a great strike into the bottom corner.

Strollers were now on top and 5 minutes later added a 2nd after Dave Guest pulled the ball back across goal to set up Gerry Monaghan to score at the back post. HT 2-0.

In the second half Solihull through everything at Strollers but we held firm with Tony Fisher giving a man of the match performance in goal. The defence was superb starting from the front through to the back line.

As we entered injury time Strollers were awarded a penalty but the home keeper pulled off a good save. Then with 30 seconds remaining the Strollers defence was finally breached.2-1. Almost immediately from the kick off the final whistle blew meaning Strollers had won through to the Cup Final 2-1.

Every player deserves a mention with a fantastic team effort.
