Over 65s Derbyshire WF League Challenge Cup Semi Final @ ‘We are Derby Padel’
Thursday 23/4/26
With 6 of the 65s squad either injured or on holiday Tony Laughton and Jimmy Watson were drafted into the squad to play Heanor in the Cup Semi. The squad in full was:
Kevin Chadwick
Tony Laughton
Tim Marsden Cap
Jimmy Watson
Steve Bones
Jez Norris
The DWFL Cup format involves 3 X 15 min games.
Game 1 d0-0
Tony Laughton, in defence, and Jimmy Watson, in midfield, slotted seamlessly into the team and Strollers enjoyed a majority of the possession, creating a number of shooting opportunities. However, the Heanor keeper made a series of excellent saves to keep a clean sheet. Kevin Chadwick was also in good form and game 1 ended 0-0.
Game 2 w4-0
Strollers increased the pressure on the Heanor defence and despite the valiant efforts of the Heanor goalie a brace from Jez Norris and the same from Steve Bones gave Strollers a convincing 4-0 victory.
Game 3 w2-1
Heanor needed to win this game by a 4 goal margin to to take the tie to penalties, and they started well taking an early lead. Strollers, however, were not to be denied and Steve Bones scored 2 to give Strollers a 2-1 win and take his individual tally to 28 League & Cup goals for the season.
Overall 3 very good team performances, 2 wins and a draw, which sets up a Cup Final V DWFL winners Ashbourne, (who beat Boston 2-1 on penalties in the other semi), on Thursday May 14 at St George’s Park.
