Strollers 69+ vs Harborough Hornets 69+ 4/8/21

Stamford ran out 2-0 winners in a good-spirited game on a very warm evening. Both sides had periods of domination, making good chances for themselves. There were some fluent passing moves on show as the game ebbed and flowed, however, it was the Strollers who took two of their chances.

3 periods of 18 minutes were played and Frank Smith put the Strollers ahead in the first period with a crisp shot from an acute angle which beat the Harborough keeper. The keeper who was our own David Ingram who volunteered to play for Harborough as their keeper was injured. David played very well, making several good save: we know where to come knocking if we are ever short of a goalie.

The second goal came in the second period when Col Murrant played the ball back from goal line to the edge and centre of the box. Phil Cullimore, should that be Collymore, stroked the ball into the net with a well controlled effort.

Harborough had their chances and following a fine save by Trev Oliver, the ball rebounded to one of Harborough's forwards who blasted over with the goal at his mercy.

A good match which had some quality play in from both sides. Near the end, some passing got ragged as the players tired in the heat

Thanks to Paul for refereeing, Chris for managing the team, Guy for letting us wear the yellow Stamford Town kit as both teams turned up in full red. The numerous flies around certainly liked those yellow kits.

Squad: Bob Wood, Brian Dunkerley, Chris Keirl, Col Murrant. David Ingram, Frank Smith, Phil Cullimore, Tony Laughton, Trevor Oliver.
