ASHA Healthcare Midlands 65+ League - Final Matchday
Stamford’s 1st game was against 2nd placed Oakham.It was a game the new champions dominated from the off playing some excellent football with crisp passing and good movement rounded off with two 1st half goals.The second half saw the pattern of the game continue in the same vein with Will Barrett 2 and Gerry Monaghan the goalscorers in a 3-0 win.
The second game was against cup holders Boston and the strong Stamford side again dominated possession but though in control Boston’s defence was holding firm. Stamford were then tested when Graham Curry was blue carded but in the 2 minutes he was off the pitch Strollers showed their quality by taking the lead. Ht 1-0. With Boston having to come out in search of an equaliser Stamford were able to open them up with 2 more second half goals for a 3-0 win the goals coming from Gerry Monaghan 2 and Will Barrett.
Another convincing day at the office with every player in the squad playing their part both today and in what has been a fantastic league campaign as shown by the stats—10 wins out of 10 for 100% record 26 goals scored and only 2 conceded with no fewer than 9 clean sheets. Brian Dunkerley was not with the team today but played his part as a valuable member of the squad.
The trophy and winners medals were presented after the match and the trophy will now be held at Borderville.
