Strollers 65+ Derbyshire League MD1

Having recently joined the Derbyshire Walking Football League Strollers took their bow on Thursday September 11. Match day 1, of 7, gave Stamford 7 X 12 minute  games against each of the other teams in the League.

The squad for the day was:

• Steve Bones

• Taff Lovesey

• Frank Smith

• Jez Norris

• Tim Marsden Cap

A strong squad, buoyed by new signings Kevin Chadwick GK and Steve Bones, remained competitive and unbeaten throughout the 84 minutes of football.

The results were as follows:

Strollers 1 Matlock 1, in a very even game Matlock took the lead. Unperturbed, Stamford pressed Matlock and a fine through ball from Taff Lovesey found Jez Norris in space who clinically swept the ball passed the Matlock GK.

Strollers 2 Hucknall 0, Stamford dominated this game with Steve Bones taking full advantage to score 2 goals, including 1 pen.

Strollers 1 Boston 1, in another very even game Boston took the lead, once again Stamford demonstrated ‘bouncebackability’ to create a series of openings, one of which led to a penalty which Steve Bones calmly converted.

Strollers 0 Heanor 0, a second clean sheet for the commanding Kevin Chadwick in a game which Stamford should really have won.

Strollers 1 Etwall 0, with Stamford in control of this game, Paul Beard had the time and space to stride forward from the back to break the deadlock.

Strollers 1 Derby County Community 0, another game with Stamford in command, again it was Steve Bones with the decisive strike to earn the win.

Strollers 0 Ashbourne 0, a very tight, physical game against a strong Ashbourne team unsurprisingly ended goalless. Kevin Chadwick earned his fifth clean sheet out of 7 against last season’s league winners.

Overall a very good day for Strollers 65s, 3 wins and 4 draws, in which everybody played their part, however, special mentions for Steve Bones’ 4 goals and Kevin Chadwick’s stand out performances in goal.
