Spring National Championships
On Saturday a mixed 40s and 50s Strollers side took on a strong field in the 40s category, facing five high-quality teams over a demanding schedule at the impressive David Ross Sports Village at Nottingham University.
The tournament began with a statement win against Wotton WFC. Despite conceding inside two minutes, the Strollers responded superbly—dominating possession and tempo. Antonio struck twice with clinical finishes to seal a 2–1 victory over the eventual tournament winners.
Momentum continued into a tough run of three consecutive fixtures. Stratford Town were dispatched 2–0 with well-worked team goals from Jamie and Teddy in a controlled, confident performance. A tightly contested clash with Wakefield Redoubt followed, ending 0–0 in a game of fine margins.
Fatigue began to show in the third game of the run against a physical Birmingham WFC side. Two quick goals put the Strollers on the back foot, and despite a Birmingham blue card, the opposition managed the game effectively to secure the result.
The final fixture against a strong Unity side proved a step too far. Two early goals forced the Strollers to chase the game, leaving gaps that Unity capitalised on in a 4–0 defeat.
Final record: 2 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses
Points: 7 | Position: 4th
A competitive and resilient showing against top opposition—plenty to build on.
