The Stamford Strollers B team squad for Match day 3 was:
Stuart Gardner GK
Tim Marsden Cap
Paul Archer came into the squad for the first time this season, in what was the only change to what is becoming a settled side.
Strollers 4 Huntingdon A 0 Our first match was against Huntingdon A who were still looking for their first win of the season. Strollers started off in confident fashion dominating possession from the start. An early pass from Tim Marsden at the back up to Colin Barret-Treen saw the forward turn away from his marker and fire past the keeper to take the lead. Paul Archer’s movement was causing Huntingdon all sorts of problems down their left side and when another Marsden pass found Archer unmarked he cut inside and found the near corner of the goal with his left foot to make it 2 – 0. Les Woods and Archer then combined to set up Barrett-Treen to score his second and make it 3 – 0. A fourth goal arrived just before half time when Marsden intercepted a pass on the half way line and was allowed to advance before shooting right footed into the far corner. The second half saw Stamford continue to dominate but no further goals followed.
Strollers 6 Harborough Green 3
Our second match was against Harborough Town Green who were just above Strollers in the league standings. Once again Stamford were quick to take the game to their opponents and Barrett-Treen finished off a good move to give Strollers the lead. Archer scored a second following a one two with Barrett-Treen, and then a third after robbing a defender and scoring from close range. 3- 0 to Stamford at half time. An end to end second half saw Strollers share six goals with Harborough. Mike Edwards lashed home a fourth following good work from Woods and Archer, Marsden scored the fifth following a one two with Edwards and Woods grabbed the sixth, set up by Edwards. In between Harborough scored three with Stuart Gardener in the Strollers goal pulling off an excellent double save to prevent a fourth. Final score 6 – 3 to Stamford, and back to back wins for the first time this season.
