PDFL Matchday 5
In the Championship, Strollers faced Oundle Town ans Boston Utd on a cold damp morning. Thank you to Oundle for joining in our moment of remembrance. However, we went on to trounce them 4-0 with Nigel Reeve netting all four goals. It took Oundle quite some time to enter our half, such was our dominance. It was a different story in the next game with a very strong Boston side. We were the ones struggling to get a foothold in the game. A harsh blue card for Nigel put us even more on the back foot and we conceded from a corner where Boston made good use of their extra man. Some fine saves from Steve Bavage-Crowson kept us in the game as we pushed in vain for the equaliser.
Team: Steve Bavage-Crowson, Paul Giffen, Jonathan Thompson, Mike Edwards, Merryn Kelby, Nigel Reeve, Matt Elphee.
In League One, our Social side had fun against Harborough Town Hornets Red and were unlucky not to get something from a game where one goal decided it. Emma Goldsmith on her return between the sticks made several key saves. Hampton Utd, fielding some new faces, ultimately were too strong in the second game but for a while it was close. Kevin Hay cancelled out Hampton’s opener with a fine long range effort, and went close a couple of times after that as Strollers Social chased the game. It finished 5-1 but all I saw were happy faces from our guys. Tired, but happy. On to the next one.
Team: Emma Goldsmith, Kevin Hay, Rosalie Gibbs, Hingwai Chan, Carl Richards, Cath Thirsk.
