Over 60s Lincs League Wednesday March 18 @ the Roses Sports Ground Gainsborough

The squad for match day 3 of the Lincs League was:

Our first fixture of the day was against table toppers Boston United. In a tight and very competitive match chances were few and far between. The deadlock was broken, early second half, when Boston were awarded a penalty, as a result of 4 team running offences. The Boston player confidently dispatched the penalty and Strollers found themselves a goal down. Moments later Boston were presented with a glorious opportunity to go 2 up, only for Dave Moore to pull off a brilliant double save to keep Stamford in the game. With time running out Paul Humphries charged down a Boston clearance, side stepped his marker and drilled his shot into the far corner of the Boston net to level the scores at 1-1 and earn Strollers a deserved point.

Next up were Lincoln Invictus, although Stamford dominated the match in terms of possession Lincoln were proving to be resilient in defence and it took a flowing move finished off again by Humphries, assisted by Taff Lovesey, to give Strollers a 1-0 victory and the 3 points.

The last game of the day was against Grimsby Ancient Mariners. Again Stamford dominated possession and this time their play was rewarded with goals. First Iain Ross was set up by Jez Norris to calmly sweep the ball into the far corner of the net. Next, Steve Bones played in Ross to toe punt his finish high into the GAM goal. Lastly, Humphries grabbed his third goal of the day following fine work from Alan Cook to give Strollers a 3-0 victory and 3 more points.

Overall a good day for Stamford Strollers Over 60s who played some good football in all 3 games, winning 2 and drawing the other, which sees them climb into second place in the Lincs Premiership with 2 match days to play. Next one is on Wednesday April 15 at Grantham (provisionally).
