Over 60s Lincs Premier League Wednesday February 15

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

The squad for Matchday 2 held at the Priory Pembroke Academy Lincoln Wednesday February 15 was:

  • Bill Whittle

  • Chris Keirl

  • Paul Beard

  • Bill Heath

  • Andy Vessey

  • Lee Tillen

  • Steve Adcock

First up for Strollers were Lincoln Invictus. A slow start from Stamford resulted in a flurry of long range shots and corners from Invictus. An early injury to Paul Beard further disrupted Strollers efforts to get forward and Stamford were indebted to Bill Whittle who had to make a string of fine saves to keep Lincoln out. Strollers, well organised by Chris Keirl at the back, grew into the game and a tight first half ended 0 -0.

Second half Stamford showed more going forward and were starting to get on top, and it was now the turn of the Invictus keeper to keep the scores level. As the game become more end to end a lofted pass found Steve Adcock, well outside the area, who controlled the ball in the air, turned and fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the Invictus net. Lincoln responded well and Whittle had to be at his best to record a clean sheet. Final score 1 – 0 to Strollers.

The second fixture of the day was scheduled to be against Sleaford Academicals. Unfortunately Sleaford couldn’t raise a side and Stamford were awarded a 3 – 0 win and the 3 points.

The last match of the day was against Grimsby Corinthians which turned out to be a more open affair. Stamford started this game on the front foot and Adcock flashed an early shot just wide following a mazy run. Corinthians responded well and Whittle had to make at least a couple of good saves. Strollers continued to press for the first goal and a good move ended with a slide rule pass from Andy Vessey which found Bill Heath in space who clinically drilled the ball past the Grimsby keeper. Half time 1 – 0 to Stamford.

As the second half became more end to end Strollers started to string more passes together. Following a flowing move a lovely back heel from Heath set up Adcock who drilled the ball into the far corner. More good passing and movement found Vessey, high up the pitch, he rounded his man, dummied the keeper and rolled the ball into the Corinthian goal. Final score 3 – 0 to Stamford.

Overall a good day for Strollers, 3 wins and 3 clean sheets moves Stamford into second place in the league.
