Maulden Mini Tournament 19th April

On April 19th our Stamford Strollers 40s team took part and won the April Maulden Walking Football Club Mini Tournament

With 3 players making walking football competitive debuts and the goalkeeper making a first ever competitive appearance it was very much a mixed squad of tournament experience.

Playing 6 games back to back over a 2 hour period was always going to be a tough test but the Strollers started very strongly by winning the first 4 games 3-1, 2-1, 2-1 and 2-1. Some nerves creeped in for the next game seeing the Strollers lose 3-1 to a strong Northampton team.

The final game saw the Stamford Strollers re group and play the best football of the tournament to beat a good footballing Maulden team 4-1 and win the tournament on 10 points with 14 goals scored.

Some great football played throughout the tournament with goals coming from Jamie (5), Darren (4), Robert (2), Tommy (2 plus plenty of assists I’m told) and an absolute cracker from Andy (1). Top quality and calm defending / midfield play from Paul and Simon gave the old man (Jason) in goal some great protection.

Congratulations to the team and especially the players who represented the club for the first time (Andy, Robert and Paul) in what was an enjoyable, competitive and fun afternoon of football.

Thank you to Maulden Walking Football Club for hosting these tournaments, the hospitality and always close, competitive and sporting games. Sessions are well organised and smoothly run in the right spirit of the game.

Apologies to Flitwick sports centre for one of our “defenders” hoofing a 90 foot high clearance/shot at your very top windows.
