With the increase in the desire to 'win at all costs' creeping more and more into walking football, we were delighted to be able to team up with Boston to add a second team to this seasons Asha Healthcare Midlands 65+ league, allowing more of our 65+ players to partipate in the competition.
The team, which we called B&S United, took to the field for the first time yesterday.
The combined Boston and Stamford United team which included Trevor Oliver(GK), Frank Smith, Colin Kirby and John Phythian from Stamford with Andy Frankowski, Brian Neal and Dave Richardson (Yogi) from Boston, had a great day out at the Nottingham Over 65s first round matched on 29 March.
In the first game against Nottingham Bramcote the team lost 3-0, a score which flattered their opponents.
In the second game against Oakham the team grew in confidence with better understand with friends from Boston, but unfortunately lost 5-4 in a cracking end to end match described by the spectators as ‘Match of the day’. The game could easily have gone either way with B&S Utd goals coming from Stamford ‘lads’ John Phythian, Frank Smith (pen) and a superbly taken goal by Colin Kirby and a further goal from Yogi of Boston. Oakham were very glad at the end of the day to have won the game and everyone looks forward to the next round.
