The Strollers did the club proud today on a wet greasy surface at Corby.
Starting slowly they improved game on game reaching the semi-finals before bowing out.
The group stages results were:
Strollers 0:2 Corby
A tight first game with Strollers starting well. Corby intercepted a pass from our GK and found the net. Chasing the game Corby found a second.
Strollers 1:5 Norwich
Next up Norwich one of the favourites, who nicked a couple of early goals before a neat pass from Jez Norris to David Hampson who finished crisply. Chasing the game Strollers gave away a penalty under the 4 Running Rule. Norwich 3 -1 up. Strollers struggled to penetrate as Norwich picked up 2 late goals. Norwich 5-1 win.
Strollers 0:0 Solihull Moors
Against a stong Solihull side, we dug in and held them to a draw in the heat of the sun.
Strollers 1:0 Rushden & Diamonds
Our best peformance by far against Rushden & Diamonds where we bossed the game from start to finish. Norris had 2 goals disallowed before he finished a neat pass from Paul Beard to win1-0. Brilliant performance by all.
Strollers 2:0 Moulton
Building on the Rushden performance, the lads stepped up again, beating Moulton 2 -0 with goals from Norris and David Keeling finding the top left hand corner of net. Superb performance by Mike Kirkham as goalkeeper in this game as Peter Oppenheimer picked up an injury.
Semi-Final - Strollers 0:3 Solihull Moors
With the injury to Oppenheimer, the lads had been playing without a sub for the last two games. Tiredness told as a result and Solihull ran out worthy winners.
A great performance from our lads, especially to fight back after a slow start in the group.
