Matchday 2 of the ASHA Healthcare Midlands Over 65s League saw leaders Stamford first take on newcomers Boston & Stamford Utd. Strollers were always in control dominating the ball and with the high press giving Utd little room to play when out of possession. Skipper John Hutchins showed the way with the opening goal before Nic Poletti opened his account for the Club. 2-0 at half time. Further goals from John H and Gerry Monaghan put Strollers 4-0 up before Utd scored a late consolation. Full time 4-1.
Strollers 2 Alfreton 0
The 2nd game was against Alfreton who took Stamford to extra time the last time they met in last season’s cup semi final. This time Strollers soon got on top and despite having a penalty saved went into the break 2-0 up with goals from Gerry M and Nic P. Alfreton as usual showed little adventure and Strollers comfortably saw out the 2nd half. Full time 2-0.
A good day at the office with all the squad playing a full part in keeping Stamford on top of the table. Next up their biggest challengers Bramcote so still all to play for.
