PDFL Match Day 3

Six months on from Match day 2, lockdown restrictions are eased and the Peterborough league fixtures resume.

The squad was:

Paul Newiss

Paul Archer

Gary Wildsmith

Colin Barrett-Treen

Lee Tillen

Graham Stokes

Tim Marsden

Game 1 V Harborough Town Red W13-0

Newiss, Wildsmith, Archer, Barrett-Treen and Tillen took to the field as the Strollers once more returned to competitive action in what turned out to be a very one sided contest. It was a game of our attack against their defence as Strollers rattled in 13 goals to no reply. Half time saw the introduction of Graham Stokes who made his ‘tournament’ debut for the Strollers, helping himself to 2 second half goals. Other goal scorers were Wildsmith 4, Archer 3, Barrett-Treen 2 and Tillen 1. Paul Newiss had little trouble keeping a clean sheet. Full credit to our opponents who kept going to the end and to referee Stuart Craig’s experienced handling of the match

Game 2 V Harborough Town Yellow L0-1

A far more difficult game was expected against opponents we had drawn 2 – 2 with previously and Marsden and Tillen replaced Archer and Barrett- Treen respectively from the side that had finished the previous game. The first half was a tight physical affair, clear cut chances were at a premium and both keepers confidently dealt with the few attempts on goal. Half time saw the reintroduction of Barrett-Treen for Stokes. The second half continued in much the same vein and looked to be heading for a scoreless draw. However, the game turned on the one moment of true quality in the game as the Harborough striker fired expertly into the corner of the Strollers net from some distance. Strollers had half chances to snatch a draw but it wasn’t to be, in fact it could have been worse as Newiss pulled off an outstanding save to keep the final score 1 – 0 to Harborough.
