Asha Healthcare Midlands Over 65s Matchday 4

Strollers have been knocked off top spot after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bramcote before beating Boston 4-0. Matlock have gone to having won 7 of their 8 games. With 4 games to go it is all to play for and the crunch game next month between Strollers and Matlock could decide the title this season. Though Bramcote look too far behind to win the League they still have to play the top 2 teams so could have a major say!

First up Strollers played Bramcote who were at full strength with England players Vic Handley and Chris Theaker returning and main striker John Holden also back. A tight 1st half saw Bramcote take the lead after one of their players lost his marker. Strollers bounced back quickly through Gerry Monaghan and an even 1st half ended 1-1. The 2nd half saw Strollers well on top. Bramcote didn’t create any goal scoring opportunities but defended resolutely. Stamford’s quick sharp passing did open their opponents up but failed to take either of 2 golden chances. FT 1-1.

The 2nd game was against Boston who had England goalkeeper Sykes in great form. But for him the score would have been many more. As it was Strollers ran out comfortable winners 4-0 with goals from David Kelby(3) and Nic Poletti.
