Asha Healthcare Midlands Over 65s Matchday 1

Stamford started the new season where they left off with 2 wins in their opening 2 matches.

First up was Oakham who gave a spirited display. Strollers looked rusty and took some time to settle before Gerry Monaghan opened the scoring. HT 1-0.

In the 2nd half Strollers went 2-0 up with a 2nd from Gerry Monaghan but made life difficult for themselves when they gave away a penalty which Oakham converted.

Strollers kept the ball to control the last few minutes to ensure they got off to a winning start. FT 2-1.

2nd game was against a depleted Matlock team. Strollers took full advantage and raced into a 4-0 half time lead with Chris Keirl and David Kelby both bagging 2 goals each.

In the second half Stamford took their foot off the gas with one eye on tomorrow’s Birmingham Cup semi final but still added 2 more goals with David Kelby completing his hat trick and Bob Wood getting on the scoresheet. FT 6-0.

It was good to have Will Barrett back in the side after 3 months out with a serious eye injury.
