ASHA Healthcare Midlands Over 60s League MD4

The squad for match day 4 was:

  • Bill Heath GK

  • Chris Keirl

  • Paul Beard

  • John Hutchins

  • Lee Tillen

  • Steve Adcock

  • Tim Marsden

First up for Stamford were Chesterfield Spireites who earlier in the season had pinched a point off Strollers in a 1 – 1 draw. Stamford were in no mood to make the same mistake twice and in a one sided first half scored twice through John Hutchins and Lee Tillen, both goals set up by Steve Adcock. Second half Strollers controlled the game to claim a 2 – 0 victory, the 3 points and a clean sheet.

The second match of the day for Stamford was against Matlock Arc. At kick off Oakham, Matlock and Strollers shared top spot in the League with 14 points from 7 games. First half Stamford had the majority of the possession and chances but were denied by a string of excellent saves by the Matlock keeper. Second half Strollers continued to make the running but were again denied by a man of the match display from the Matlock keeper. Against the run of play Matlock caught Stamford on the break to go 1 up. With Strollers pushing hard for an equaliser Matlock again broke away to score a second. Despite Stamford creating chances right up to the final kick of the match Matlock recorded a 2 – 0 win, (and revenge for a 3 – 1 defeat to Strollers earlier in the season), which takes Matlock to the top of the League on 17 points level with Oakham. Stamford are now 3 points back with just 2 games to play.
