Matchday 5 of the WFA MIdlands Premier brought some mixed results for both Stamford Stroller outfits; Whites and Yellows.
Stamford Whites 1:2 Leicester
(P Blakemore)
The Whites will be kicking themselves after letting this one slip and as they had the lion's share of possession and territory.
A well hit long distance shot from Paul Blakemore put us 1-0 up and we kept a strong Leicester team limited to the odd shot at goal in an energetic first half.
In the second half the pattern of the game continued but a mistake in defence coming out from the back allowed Leicester to snatch and equaliser against the run of play.
Leicester then had their first blue card reducing them to 5 and Whites pushed hard for an equaliser. A minute later Leicester received a second blue card, now with two players off the pitch. Whites still failed to break them down and amazingly conceded again following a break and a missed tackle.
Stamford continued to be the better team but despite creating a number of chances failed to get the equaliser they needed. A good perfromance but a poor result.
Stamford Yellows 2:1 Hucknall
(G Curry, G Wildsmith)
Stamford Whites 3:2 Boston
(T Lovesey, C Barrett-Treen, S Christie)
Unusually for Stamford v Boston games this match was not as close as the score suggests. Boston were badly weakened by illness and injuries and their passing football was clearly impacted. The Whites took an early and well deserved lead with a well taken effort from skipper Taff Lovesey. Boston dug in and despite being under a pressure they equalised after a good passing move and attack down the middle.
It was difficult for Boston to build attacks though and Stamford eased back ahead with goals from Colin Barrett-Treen, a solid shot that the keeper got to but failed to prevent crossing the line and a side foot into the goal from Steve Christie.
The pattern of the game continued in the same vein as time progressed and the Whites were guilty of missing a few gilt edged chances. Boston then rallied and after a well worked freekcik brought them to withing a goal. They had a few chances themselves to level it and finished the game stronger than the Whites.
