Stamford Strollers visited Huntingdon WF this morning to play 3 friendly games (late 60s age-group) at Huntingdon in a boarded cage!
Match 1:
Both teams retained the ball well and it was 0-0 at half time. A great pass from midfield to our striker who had a 1 on 1 with the GK - GK wins this battle and made a good save. Plenty of controlled football and some good saves resulted in a deserved draw. Draw 0-0.
Match 2:
Both teams opened up and Huntingdon broke well to take the lead in the first half. Strollers continued to attack and a pass from Paul to Alf shot past the keeper to bring us level. Both teams went looking for the winner and Huntingdon took the lead again with 8mins left on the clock. Strollers went looking for an opening with Tony, Bob, David and Martin all having shots blocked or saved by the GK. Eventually using the rebound off the backboards enabled Alf, then Paul to shoot before Alf hit the equaliser to bring the scores level. Draw 2-2.
Match 3:
After 2 draws both teams were really knocking the ball around well, but the odd loose ball impacted the goal scoring opportunities for Huntingdon and Stamford. Moving the ball from our GK (Peter), through the defence (Tony) using the boards to find David who was able to pass to Paul who found the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box. Strollers 1-0 up. The next 15mins Stamford were put under pressure by Huntingdon as they went in search of the equaliser. Some good blocks and the team managed to keep the chances to a minimum with our GK only tested a few times. Strollers Win 1-0.
A big thanks to the Ref who made every effort to let the game flow and it worked. Thanks also to our friends at Huntingdon WF who were great hosts and the Lemon & Elderflower Cake after the game was delicious and enjoyed by all!
We look forward to being able to welcome Huntingdon WF back to Stamford/Bourne to play more Walking Football.
