Our WFA 65+ National Cup (Round2), proved to be a high energy, skilful match which swung one way then the other.
In a very tight game, Sleaford took the lead but Strollers fought back with a well taken equaliser from man of the match Paul Humphries.
The game continued to swing back and for with both teams having chances and Trevor Oliver made a couple of good saves for the reds. A passing move found Humphries open on the right, and he made firm contact to put us 2-1 ahead.
Strollers were now defending well and when Dave Forth and Taff Lovesey broke away for a two on one chance looked set to increase the lead, but were frustrated when the referee stopped the game to give Strollers a free kick, fifteen metres back.
More frustration followed when Tim Marsden’s shot was parried by the keeper. Lovesey pounced on the rebound and thought he’d put Strollers 3-1 ahead, only for the referee, after a lengthy delay, deciding to disallow the goal for a foul in the build up.
Almost immediately, Sleaford pressed us back and a mix up in defence allowed an equaliser.
As the clock ran down penalties loomed, but a long distance, well hit, but speculative shot wrong footed the keeper and Sleaford took the honours 3-2.
An excellent, fast paced game that both teams enjoyed being part of.
