Over 65s @ We are Derby Padel Thursday Jan 22
The squad for match day 5 of the Derbyshire Walking Football League was:
Kevin Chadwick
John Hutchins
Paul Humphries
Steve Bones
Taff Lovesey
Jez Norris
Tim Marsden Cap
Our first match of the day was against Ashbourne. In a very competitive, tight match, chances were few and far between. Kevin Chadwick in the Strollers goal was in good form to ensure a clean sheet and a 0-0 draw against table toppers Ashbourne.
Next up was Heanor, although Strollers dominated possession and created numerous chances they couldn't find a way past the excellent Heanor keeper. Stamford were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal and were caught twice on the break to
lose 2-0.
Third game of the day was against our old rivals at Boston. Similar to the Ashbourne game defences and goal keepers were very much on top and another 0-0 was the outcome.
Fourth game of the day was against Matlock, this time Stroller’s possession was rewarded with 4 goals, all scored by the outstanding Steve Bones. Matlock played their part in an end to end game and were unlucky to score only 1 goal, Chadwick pulling off
a great save early on to keep the scores level.
Fifth game of the day was against Etwall, again Strollers dominated possession, but Etwall twice caught us on the break to take a 2-0 lead. Stamford though didn't let their heads drop but fought back to level the scores 2-2, with two more goals from Bones.
Last game of the day was against Derby County, in an end to end contest Chadwick and Vic Handley in the Derby goal were both in fine form and it took another excellent finish from Bones, now 22 goals for the season, to break the deadlock and give Strollers a 1-0
victory.
Overall a very mixed day for Strollers, some spells of flowing football and great goals, but also some uncharacteristic individual mistakes and below par performances.
Having said that we started the day 1 point behind Ashford and finished it in exactly the
same position.
