The Over 65s made the trip to ‘We are Derby Padel’ with a squad of 6 following the withdrawals of Paul Humphries injured and Jez Norris flu. The squad of 6 was:
Kevin Chadwick
Paul Beard
Tim Marsden Cap
John Hutchins
Steve Bones
Taff Lovesey
Stamford started the day 1 point behind leaders Ashbourne and 7 ahead of Boston in third place. First up were mid table Matlock who had proved to be difficult to beat opposition in the past. True to form Matlock gave a good account of themselves and were good value in a 0 - 0 draw. It could have been worse for Strollers had it not been for an excellent penalty save by Kevin Chadwick in the Stamford goal.
Next up for the Over 65s were Derby County, who also gave Stamford a run for their money. Although on top Strollers couldn’t find the breakthrough until Steve Bones managed to wriggle free of his marker to fire Stamford to their first win of the day and to Steve’s 13th goal of the season.
Strollers’ third match of the day against Etwall went much the same way as the Derby encounter. Etwall proving to be difficult to breakdown, until Bones again beat his man and fired Stamford to their second win of the day.
Match 4 of the day was against table toppers Ashbourne. In a very competitive and even match it was settled 1 - 0 in Ashbourne’s favour following a misplaced pass and a clinical strike giving Chadwick in the Strollers’ goal no chance.
Match 5 saw the Over 65s bounce back with a strong performance against Heanor, Bones notching his 15th goal of the season to give Strollers a 1-0 victory and their third win of the day.
Last up for Stamford were our oldest and most local rivals Boston. The 0-0 scoreline was no surprise in a very cagey affair.
Overall it was another good day for the Over 65s with 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat. Everybody played their part and the team performance in each game was good.
Special mentions though for Kevin Chadwick who continues to excel and who conceded only 1 goal in the 6 games, and Steve Bones who scored all our 3 goals, which takes his total for the season to 15. These results leave Strollers still in second place and 1 point behind Ashbourne and 6 ahead of Boston.
