Stamford Strollers remain unbeaten in the PDFL Championship after matchday 2.
Our first game was against Hampton United who had just played their first game of the day. Their extra warm up showed as Strollers struggled to get any possession in the opening 5 minutes. Nevertheless we took the lead when Nigel Reeve scored from a routine corner. Hampton equalised before half time from a penalty for toe encroachment into the D (guilty as charged m’lud). Merryn Kelby put Strollers ahead again with a well taken finish. However, an inability to retain possession cost us when a blocked shot looped into the top corner of our goal. FInal score 2-2. A very competitive but fair game where both sides probably thought they should have won.
Last season’s Championship winners, Harborough Hornets, were up next. This was an end to end game against a good side. Again we gave up a winning position at 3-2 to draw the game 3-3. This time I felt Strollers were the better team with more possession and creating more chances. Strollers’ goals came from Nigel, Pedro Molero, and Toni Cammarata.
Full lineup: Steve Bavage-Crowson, Jonathan Thompson, Jason Fullman, Nigel Reeve, Merryn Kelby, Pedro Molero, Toni Cammarata.
