Match day 1 of the new season was played at the Roses Sports Ground Gainsborough. The squad for the day was:

  • Bill Whittle GK

  • Chris Keirl

  • Paul Beard

  • Lee Tillen

  • Bill Heath

  • Steve Adcock

  • Andy Vessey

  • Dave Guest

First up for Strollers was Grimsby Corinthian Reds. Stamford were quickly into their stride and largely dominated the first half but were unable to translate their superior possession and chances into goals, half time 0 – 0. The second half saw the introduction of new signings Andy Vessey and Dave Guest. The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Strollers creating a steady stream of chances with Grimsby defending resolutely. With time starting to run out a smart free kick involving Steve Adcock and Andy Vessey found Dave Guest in space who finished clinically from a tight angle. Although Grimsby fashioned a half chance in the last seconds of the game Stamford held on to record a much deserved 1 – 0 victory.

Next up for Strollers was Grimsby Corinthian Whites. The Whites were clearly the better of the two Grimsby teams and a much tighter tighter game resulted. Bill Whittle, in the Stamford goal, pulled off a great save first half to keep the score 0 – 0 at half time. There were chances for both sides second half and Whittle pulled off 2 more eye catching saves to keep Strollers in the game. Grimsby eventually broke the deadlock with a deflected shot that wrong footed Whittle and proved to be the winner. L0-1

The last game of the day for Strollers was against Boston. A cagey game panned out with few clear cut chances although both keepers pulled off at least one stand out save each to ensure a final score of 0 – 0.
