In a day that saw four seasons of weather within a couple of hours, Stamford Strollers 50+ played some excellent passing football to ease past a strong Bramcote team 6-4.
Switching to a 1-3-1 formation, the Stamford team were able to stifle much of the Bramcote creativity and despite enjoying more possession the hosts were unable to create their usual plethora of chances.
With the whole team defending well the Strollers took advantage of their chances when they gained possession and front man Scott Sawers, the man of the match, was in deadly form netting five goals on the day.
Easing 2-0 ahead before a slip by player manager Taff Lovesey let Bramcote in, the Stamford team never looked like falling behind and they continued to lock up the midfield to limit space for Bramcote before hitting on the counter.
The midfield looked solid throughout and with Sawers tucking them away, the team moved 6-3 ahead with a fine goal scored by Darryl Beecroft.
Bramcote did pull one back late in the game but Stamford held strong for a well earned and deserved victory.
Special thanks to Malcolm Mackenzie for another fine performance with the whistle. excellent officiating ensuring the speed and physicality stayed in check.
