The final matchday of the inaugural Lincolnshire FA Walking Football league brought success for the Strollers on a showery day at Lincoln University.
The 60+ team faced two games knowing that they were in a good position to claim second spot in the league. First up were Welton Imps a squad also in a position to grab runners up. Welton found the Strollers too hot to handle though and goals from skipper Colin Kirby followed by a brace for Will Barrett and Paul Marks eased the Strollers to a 5-0 win.
The second game was against Gainsborough and the Strollers fell two behind very early in the half. They rallied though and two each for Will Barrett, John Hutchins and Paul Marks secured the league runners-up trophy with a 6-3 win.
The 50+ league was very tight going into the last matchday with four teams in a position to take the top two spots. After two weeks of appalling luck, both on the field through missed chances and conceding sloppy goals, as well as off the pitch with multiple injuries, the Strollers knew that they needed to win both games and hope other results went their way.
First up were title chasing Spilsby and the Strollers chances for silverware fell at the first hurdle with a 0-3 defeat in a tighter game than the score reflects.
In the final game the 50+ squad faced bottom of the table Lincoln City and ran out easy 8-3 winners. Martin Lott notched four and skipper Taff Lovesey and Will Barrett scored two each.
