AshaHealthcare Midlands Over 65s League MD2

Good news for the Strollers as they won both games today to move to the top of the league after 4 games.

First up were Alfreton who at the start of the season were expected to be challenging at the top end of the table. A tight game with Stamford having the better of the 1st half and Gerry Monaghan hitting the post after just 2 minutes but 0-0 at half time. Stamford again created more chances in the 2nd half with the Alfreton goalkeeper fortunate on more than one occasion. Gerry Monaghan broke the deadlock with a good finish so Stamford ran out deserved 1-0 winners.

Second game was a top of the table clash vs reigning champions Oakham both sides coming into the game on the back of 3 wins. Something had to give and Stamford took control with first half goals from Graham Curry and Gerry Monaghan. A third goal from Graham Curry in the 2nd half meant Stamford ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

A good all round team showing today with everyone playing their part from Bill Whittle in goal right through the whole squad with 2 clean sheets as well.

Well done to all the players today.
